“THE STRANGER”. Inspired by the work of Albert Camus. What happens to a person who refuses to live by the rules accepted by society? Can you remain yourself when the people around you expect certain feelings, actions and reactions from you? The one-man show “The Stranger” is based on a play by Mikhail Durnenkov, inspired by Albert Camus’ celebrated novel. At the heart of the story is a man who gradually becomes a stranger to everyone around him. He does not try to meet their expectations or pretend to be someone he is not, and seems to exist on the other side of conventional ideas about justice, good and evil. The play’s protagonist finds himself face to face with a society determined to understand, judge and condemn him. But is a person really to blame for feeling differently? And where is the line between inner freedom and loneliness? “The Stranger” continues the theatre project launched by director Yuri Butusov. The performance is directed by Maya Dorozhenko, a student of the master, and retains an important connection to his artistic legacy.
